Oat Milk Italian Hot Chocolate

What makes Italian hot chocolate different is its thick texture and richness. It is made with high quality dark chocolate. This recipe uses oat milk but you could substitute regular milk as well. If you have never had this type of hot cocoa you will be surprised how easy it is to make at home and discover why it is as famous as it it. It is essentially liquid chocolate!

This recipe is the classic and a base for other flavorings. Try customizing this my adding espresso, caramel, coconut, chili peppers etc!

As mentioned this is very rich. I think 6 oz is a generous portion. For a small dessert 4 oz works great!

Description

Rich, creamy and decadent Italian hot chocolate with oat milk

Ingredients
  • 2 cups Oat Milk
  • 120 grams Chocolate (60-75% dark)
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 1 pinch Salt
Instructions
  1. Prepare milk mixture

To the oat milk stir in the sugar, corn starch, cocoa and salt. Place on medium low heat and mix until it starts to simmer, preventing lumps from forming.

It is important to let the milk come to a simmer to activate the cornstarch thickening agent.
  2. Add the chocolate

Finely chop or shave the chocolate. Add to the simmering milk mixture and mix to avoid lumps. Allow to simmer then remove from the heat.

    Serve while hot.
