Country Sourdough Bread

Homemade bread is one of the simple pleasures in life. There is nothing better than cutting into a fresh loaf of bread and enjoying it still warm with butter!

This is my basic recipe for sourdough bread and the base for many variations, such as whole wheat, semolina etc. If you don't currently have a starter now is a great time to start one and enjoy fresh baked bread.

Description

Fresh baked sourdough that taste like it is straight from an artisanal bakery.

Ingredients
  • 500 grams Bread flour
  • 150 grams Sourdough starter
  • 350 grams Water
  • 11 grams Salt
Instructions
  1. Prepare the dough

Combine all ingredients and knead for 10 minutes. The mixture will be sticky. Fold into a ball and place in a lightly oiled bowl.

Every hour, for 3 hours, lift the ends of the dough and fold into the middle. This will help the gluten develope.

After 3 hours remove from the blow and shape by folding the ends into the center than forming into a tight ball. Place in a floured bowl or proofing basket.

  2. Bake

Preheat a dutch oven to 450. Remove the dough from the proofing basket and score the top in a design of your choice. Carefully place the bread into the dutch oven and cover. Let bake for 15 minutes. Remove the lid and continue baking for 15-20 minutes or until the bread is a dark golden brown.

Remove and let cool before cutting.
