Light, fluffy, buttery and indulgent panettone is the perfect bread for french toast. Panettone is a traditional Italian Christmas sweet bread that is packed with candied citrus, raisins and orange peels. The best panettone hails from Milan and is a true work of art. I like to use the leftover panettone to make french toast. It is a great way to use up any leftover bread.

This recipe is perfect for breakfast or your next brunch party! Some great toppings are powdered sugar, maple syrup or ricotta and jam.

Ingredients

Panettone French Toast

Instructions

  1. Prepare the French Toast

Slice the panettone roughly 1/2" thick. The thicker the slices the longer it will take to cook. In a bowl combine the milk, eggs, vanilla and cinnamon. Whisk to combine. Dip the bread into the mixture, shaking off any extra.

  2. Cook the French Toast

Preheat your oven to 350 and line a baking sheet with foil. Add a butter to a non-stick heated over medium heat. Pan fry the the bread until browned on both sides. Place on the baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes. The center should be fully cooked.

Panettone absorbs a lot of the mixture. It is important to continue baking until the center is cooked. The baketime will depend on the thickness of your slices.
