Buttermilk fried chicken is an American classic. This is a spicy version that is crispy, juicy and delicious! You can customize the seasoning to your taste and make it your own.

Buttermilk tenderizes the chicken and adds a lovely tangy flavor. For best results it is best to let the chicken marinate overnight. Not only does it give the chicken time to absorb all the flavors, it also makes making it the next day super easy and quick!

These chicken tenders are also fantastic on a toasted bun with pickles and hot sauce!

Prepare the chicken

  1. Marinate chicken

Combine chicken, buttermilk and seasoning in a large bowl or container. Mix well and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  2. Fry the chicken

In a dutch oven or fry pan, add oil and bring to 350 F.

Remove chicken from fridge 30 minutes before ready to fry. Prepare the seasoned flour and dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.

Carefully lay the chicken in the oil and fry for 3 minutes. Turn and cook another 3 minutes. The chicken will be done when the exterior is nice and brown and the internal temperature is 165 F.

Set chicken on a wire rack to drain and serve.
